Description
A hungry heron finds a convenient place to search for his next meal.
The great blue heron (Ardea herodias) is common near open water and wetlands over most of North and Central America. It is occasionally seen in Spain and the far South of Europe, but is generally replaced by the smaller but very similar grey heron (Ardea cinerea) in temperate Europe and Asia.
Standing up to 138cm tall, with a wingspan of up to 200cm, the great blue heron feeds mainly on small fish. It breeds in colonies in trees close to lakes or other wetlands.
This original pencil drawing was drawn with Faber Castell Polychromos and Caran d'Ache Luminance pencils on Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper. If you are interested in purchasing this original painting, please visit my website at http://elainejonesart.co.uk
