Description
A young red deer stag wades through the water's edge on a misty Autumn morning.
My thanks to Gary Jones at pmp-art for the beautiful reference photograph.
Closely related to the American elk, the red deer (Cervus elaphus) is one of the largest deer species and occurs naturally in many parts of the world, including Europe and Asia Minor. Male red deer have large branching antlers, which increase in size with age. During the Autumn males will lock antlers in often fierce battles for the herd of female deer, and their bellowing can be heard from a long distance.
This original pencil drawing was made with Faber Castell Polychromos and Caran d'Ache Luminance pencils on Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper.
