A path winds invitingly through wildflowers to a viewpoint above the beautiful Lauterbrunnen valley amid the snow-capped mountain peaks of the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. A visit to to the area in 1911 was later to prove the inspiration for the enchanted valley of Rivendell in JRR Tolkien's writings.
